Annual ROHO Fishing Tournament Big Success

Wednesday, 10 May 2017

Maynardville, TN – Despite near record lake levels and cold, wet conditions on the first day of the event, the annual ROHO Fishing Tournament to benefit the area’s needy children went in the books as one of the best ever.

When Saturday’s tournament began at Beach Island Marina, participants and ROHO members alike were buzzing about the Norris Lake water elevation which crested more than a week prior to the tournament at seven and a half feet above the lake’s full mark of one thousand and twenty feet (1020) above sea level.

Although lake levels were still more than four feet above that mark Saturday, cold and rainy conditions on the opening day of the tournament added an even higher degree of difficulty for the diehard fishermen and supporters of the cause competing in the annual event.

Even with less than desirable conditions, ROHO members managed to sell more than 7,500 tickets for this year’s tournament, while generating better than $37,500 through ticket sales, which will be added to existing club funds to take 377 area needy children from the Tri-State area on a Christmas shopping spree this December.

The ROHO Club is a 100% non-profit organization that works exclusively for the benefit of the immediate area’s needy children, was formed more than 50 years ago by a group of area businessmen as a way to give back to the local community.  Five children were selected for the first shopping spree, and that number has grown drastically over the past five decades to upwards of 400.  For more information about the ROHOS, visit ROHOfishing.org, or visit the club’s Facebook page at ROHO Charitable Trust.
