A ROHO Christmas

Nearly 300 children got the opportunity to shop at the Middlesboro Walmart on Tuesday thanks to the ROHO Fishing Club. A shopping spree sponsored by the club was held for 296 children from the Tri-State area. Various businesses, schools and other volunteers helped with the endeavor to help make Christmas a little brighter for these children.

This year, each child was given $150 to spend — $40 for toys and $110 for clothing. They also received shoes donated by Walmart.

The children are chosen from 24 schools by their teachers and principals in the Tri-State area based on need. They are then paired with an adult volunteer to help with the choice of items for their special Christmas shopping trip.

“The children chosen to participate in the shopping spree often think of giving before receiving, some of them buying Christmas presents for siblings or parents rather than for themselves,” said ROHO President Jamie McCune. “These kids are not selfish at all.”

Superintendent Sponsors Children for Roho

Mar 19, 2013 (Middlesboro Daily News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- It's time for the 44th Annual Roho Fishing Tournament. Roho members are now selling tickets for the annual fishing tournament, which is a charitable fundraiser. The proceeds from the tournament are used for the group's annual Christmas shopping spree for underprivileged children.

The tournament will be held at Beach Island Resort and Marina/Bubba Brews Sports Pub and Grill. The event is scheduled May 4 and May 5. On May 4, the event will take place from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. On May 5 the event will be held between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The club has set a goal of $45,000. Reaching the goal would allow the club to send 250 children on a Christmas shopping spree. Each child would receive $150 to spend.
